Dennis L. Avery earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1968 and a Juris Doctorate in 1974 from the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1974.
Dennis started his legal career as an Assistant State Attorney for the Twentieth Judicial Circuit in Fort Myers in 1974. He has represented clients in Lee County with regard to civil litigation and criminal matters since that time.

Dennis is married and has one son and a grown daughter. His wife, Claire, is also an attorney. Dennis is an avid football fan for Bishop Verot High School and the University of Florida Gators. He is also a lifelong fan of the Minnesota Twins and more recently, the Atlanta Braves. He has a special interest in American history, especially the civil war.
